The pattern is the product
The lattice used across this site is not a graphic device we invented. It is what a wafer of emitters looks like through a microscope: hundreds of identical devices, made together, measured together. Repeatability at that scale is the whole argument for chip-scale quantum sensors, and it is the part that is hard.
Everything else on this page follows from the same idea. The contour behind the headline is a field being measured; the lattice over it is the array doing the measuring. Neither is here to fill space.
