About
About Mesa Quantum
Mesa Quantum builds chip-scale quantum sensors — and the manufacturing that makes them real. Our mission is the mass adoption of quantum devices, which means solving the manufacturing and characterization problems that have kept them in the lab.
The team
Expertise, not résumés
Our team spans atomic physics, photonics, RF and embedded systems, high-reliability hardware and volume manufacturing. Collectively they bring decades of experience from national laboratories, defense primes and semiconductor manufacturing, with peer-reviewed publications across quantum sensing and photonic devices.
More than twenty scientists and engineers, and 100+ years of combined experience, are behind the manufacturing and characterization of quantum sensor components described on this site. We publish the distillation rather than the individuals.
Where we work
Three places, one programme
Boulder, Colorado
A quantum hub, alongside CU Boulder, NIST and Elevate Quantum. Home to our precise photonic characterization lab.
New Mexico
The land of atomic technology, and a state investing hard in quantum manufacturing — alongside CHTM at UNM, Sandia/CINT and the Roadrunner Quantum Lab.
United Kingdom
We believe the UK is well positioned to lead the commercialization of quantum technology, and we work there with NPL and the University of Cambridge.
Vision
The problems we solved to get here
Mass adoption of quantum sensors required tackling manufacturing and characterization challenges nobody had solved. We solved them for ourselves, because there was no supplier to buy them from.
- 01
Precise photonic characterization
A purpose-built lab in Boulder for characterizing photonic components at the precision quantum sensing demands.
- 02
Automated VCSEL test
An automated test and scan setup that takes VCSEL characterization from a bench process to a repeatable one.
- 03
Volume qualification
Volume qualification of quantum sensor components, run out of New Mexico.
- 04
A fabless model
A distributed manufacturing network that lets us scale without owning a fab.
